Due to the perishable nature of our soups, shipping them safely requires insulated packaging, dry ice, and fast delivery — all of which make Direct to Consumer sales expensive.
Since launching our CPG line over eight years ago, we’ve focused on expanding into retail so customers can find our products more easily and at better prices. While retail growth has been slow, we’ve continued to sell online to meet demand — even at a loss.
We’ve now shifted our strategy to partner with retailers and online platforms that make it easier and more affordable for you to enjoy Egunsi Foods. Once you subscribe to Marley Spoon, head to their Marketplace section — that’s where you’ll find Egunsi Foods soups available for purchase. You can order just our soups or mix and match with any of Marley Spoon’s Meal Kits, Prepared Meals, or Marketplace items. All ingredients for your selected Martha’s Meal Shortcuts dishes, featuring Egunsi Foods soups as the base, are conveniently included in your box—or you can simply choose to purchase our soups on their own.
HOW ARE PRODUCTS PACKAGE?
We recently switched to a deli-style container — a new look with the same delicious flavors you love! When you order through Marley Spoon, your soups are shipped with ice packs in an insulated box to ensure they stay fresh and refrigerated upon arrival.
DO I HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO MARLEY SPOON TO PURCHASE EGUNSI FOODS SOUPS?
Yes, a Marley Spoon subscription is required and it’s FREE. However, you don’t have to order their meal kits or prepared meals — you can just shop the items in their Marketplace section, where Egunsi Foods soups are available, or mix and match with other Marley Spoon offerings.
IS MARLEY SPOON SUBSCRIPTION FREE?
Yes! Creating a Marley Spoon subscription is free — you’re only charged for the items you order. Please note there’s a minimum order amount required for delivery.

Absolutely! You can order just Marketplace items, including Egunsi Foods soups. Just make sure your total order meets the $47 delivery minimum.
WHEN ARE ORDERS SHIPPED AND DELIVERED?
Marley Spoon ships boxes weekly. Once you subscribe, you can choose your meal plan, delivery date, and time that work best for you. Simply select your favorite dishes and/or marketplace items 6-7 days before your scheduled delivery, depending on your location.
Please note that weather delays, particularly in winter, may impact these delivery windows and Marley Spoon or Egunsi Foods is not responsible for delays due to weather conditions or other natural causes beyond our control.

WHAT IS OBE ATA WEST AFRICAN TOMATO SOUP?
Obe Ata is a traditional West African tomato- and pepper–based sauce, most commonly associated with Nigerian cuisine. It’s made by blending fresh tomatoes, red bell peppers, onions, and chili peppers, then slowly cooking the mixture with oil and seasonings. At Egunsi Foods, we enhance our Obe Ata with an in-house vegetable base and no artificial flavors, cooking it down until it becomes rich, bold, and deeply flavorful.
Unlike most American-style soups, Obe Ata is thick and sauce-like—not brothy. It’s used as a base or recipe starter for many dishes, including stews, rice dishes, proteins, and vegetables, making it incredibly versatile for everyday cooking. HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE THE COMPANY NAME?
Phonetically, it’s pronounced A-Goo(n)-See — with the “Goo” sounding like the beginning of “Google” and a soft “n” at the end. It’s not E-Gun-See. The name comes from a well-known West African seed used in the famous Egunsi stew. Learn more about Egusi Seed here.
ARE YOUR SOUPS AND SAUCES FEE FROM GLUTEN, SOY AND DAIRY INGREDIENTS?
Yes! All Egunsi Foods soups and sauces are free from gluten, soy, and dairy, making them a great option for a variety of dietary needs.
ARE YOUR SOUPS AND SAUCES ORGANIC?
No, our soups and sauces are not certified organic. Instead, we focus on using gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO ingredients whenever we can to provide healthy, nutritious products at an affordable price. Using organic ingredients would increase costs, and we want to keep our meals accessible to our customers.
ARE EGUNSIFOODS PRODUCTS VEGAN?
We launched with vegan soups and sauces in July 2017 and later introduced meat-based options in November 2020. Our vegan products are versatile — you can enjoy them as-is or use them as a recipe starter or simmering sauce, adding any proteins or vegetables of your choice, such as fish, meat, vegetables, or poached eggs.
